Bichon Frise Health

The health of your Bichon Frise is very important. Grooming plays a large part in maintaining their health. Because Bichon Frises are hypoallergenic, this means that they do not shed their hair. It is most important that you groom your Bichon Frise on a regular basis. This grooming should include not just cutting their hair, but also clipping their toe nails and emptying their annal glands.

It is speculated that the high amount of breeding to produce a white Bichon Frise is the reason that so many Bichons have allergy problems of their own. While they may be hypoallergenic to people, a lot of Bichon Frises have some types of allergies of their own. You should check with your veterinarian if you notice that your Bichon Frise chews his/her paws (or other parts of his/her body) on a very regular basis. This could be a sign of allergies... which are easily treated. My husband and I (neither of us are veterinarians!) give our Bichon monthly shots to ease the pain of her allergies. She happens to be allergic to our grass, trees, and shrubs. Yes, we adopted her because our son has allergies, and she is has more allergies than he does!
