Car Trips with Your Bichon
Most dog owners will usually find that they cannot even jingle their keys anywhere within the home without their dog running up and assuming that they are going to be heading out for a car ride with you. The majority of dogs love going for rides in the car, from the Bichon Frise breed to all other kinds of dogs. However, some dog owners who are new to their pets may not know exactly how to prepare and deal with such an adventure in the car.
As long as you remember a couple of things before each and every car trip, you and your dog should have a great experience each time that you head out. Comfort and safety are two of the main things that you will want to keep in mind when you take your Bichon out for car trips, no matter how long or short the car trip is. You and your Bichon will probably be happier if you start their car travel at a very young age so that they can get used to car outings.
When you have a young Bichon puppy, you might want to take the little fluff ball out for very short trips in the car from time to time. As a matter of fact, a daily quick trip around the block can even be enough to get them used to the sights and sounds that they can expect while traveling in the car with you. If you train your pup at a young age, they will be a pro at car trips in the coming years.
In order to keep your Bichon safe from harm during car travel, you need to make sure that you are aware of any open windows so that you do not have any unfortunate accidents while the car is in motion. It is not uncommon to see dogs with their heads hanging out of open car windows, facing into the breeze. As common as this is, remember that it is dangerous…. Would you want a foreign object to land in your eye while hanging your head out of an open car window? Getting hit in the eye (at 55 miles an hour) even by a small fly could cause considerable damage… couldn’t it?
As with any car trip, every passenger in the car should be seated safely, including both humans and dogs alike. There are actually many different traveling seats and beds on the market that you can purchase to keep your beautiful Bichon Frise safe and comfortable on trips.
When you are heading out for lengthy car trips, you will want to make sure that you think of your dog as you would a human in terms of taking breaks. All dogs need to get out and stretch their legs just as humans do, so periodic stops are a must. Also at each of these stops you should make sure to give your dog a chance to go to the bathroom as well as get something to drink and eat. There are many great travel products that are just right for feeding and watering a dog that you can take advantage of.
As long as you are prepared, you and your Bichon Frise can have enjoyable experiences every time that you head off in the car. Of course, if you're making a car trip without your little guy/gal.... be careful not to jingle-jangle your car keys within hearing distance!
